LAV Filters

LAV Filters is a set of DirectShow codecs that allow you to play a great number of audio and video formats with the most popular video media players. LAV Filters includes three programs: LAV Splitter, LAV Audio Decoder and LAV Video Decoder.

LAV Splitter: force the audio or subtitle of your choice

Starting with LAV Splitter, this program allows you to split a multimedia file into its three different components: audio, video and subtitles. That way, you can, for example, force a specific audio or subtitle language and have the media player open it. As a result, you can avoid compatibility issues.

LAV Audio Decoder: choose your favorite audio format

With LAV Audio Decoder, you can force decoding or pass-through of a particular audio format. For example, you can force the conversion of a 5.1 audio to stereo (PCM or otherwise), or force a multichannel audio format pass-through to an external decoder. Available audio formats include Dolby Digital (AC3), Dolby Digital Plus (E-AC3), Dolby TrueHD, DTS and DTS-HD.

LAV Video Decoder: decode via hardware or software

Finally, with LAV Video Decoder, you can choose how you want the video you are about to watch to be decoded. You can force decoding via software or hardware. For hardware, you can choose between DXVA2, D3D11, NVIDIA CUVID or Intel QuickSync. You can also choose the color space for playback.
